A policeman have been confirmed dead after being involved in an accident which occurred along Ibbi-Wukari road in Ibbi local government area of Taraba State at about 6pm, on Monday September 2.
The accident which took the life of one of the police officers transporting some suspects to the police area command in Wukari, occurred few kilometers from where three policemen were shot dead by soldiers who freed Taraba kidnap kingpin Hamisu Wadume.
The police officer and the suspects died instantly after the driver of the police van lost control of the vehicle which somersaulted. The police officers who were involved in the accident were attached to DCP Abba Kyari’s team before their death. They were left behind to conduct further investigation on the murder of of three policemen and a civilian by soldiers in Ibbi.
However while an eyewitness, Mallam Kasimu Dauda confirmed that three policemen died in the accident, Daily Trust reported that the state’s police spokesperson David Misal said only one police officer died.
He wrote: “A vehicle with some police detectives, on special investigation, along Ibbi-Wukari road had a fatal accident as a result of bad tyres and it led to the death of a police officer while others sustained injuries and are currently receiving treatment”.
