  • Augsburg coach, Heiko Herrlich banned for breaking Bundesliga lockdown rules after he went out to buy toothpaste and skin cream

  • Augsburg head coach, Heiko Herrlich has been banned from taking charge of the Bundesliga club's match against Wolfsburg this weekend after breaking isolation protocol.

The 48-year-old German, who was preparing for his first game in charge on Saturday, left the Bundesliga outfit's training camp to go shopping and buy items such as toothpaste and skin cream.
For breaking the isolation protocol, the German Football League [DFL] has banned him from taking charge of the Bundesliga club's match against Wolfsburg, which would have been his first match as Augsburg manager.
The former Bayer Leverkusen boss will not be on the bench nor in the stadium.
In a statement on the club's website, Herrlich apologised and said: 'I made a mistake by leaving the hotel. Even though I have followed all hygiene measures both when I left the hotel and otherwise, I cannot undo this.
'In this situation, I act as a role model for my team and did not do justice to the public.
'I will, therefore, be consistent and stand by my mistake. Because of this misconduct, I will not be leading the training tomorrow and will not be in charge of the team against Wolfsburg on Saturday.'
Herrlich only joined Augsburg as a manager in March following Martin Schmidt's departure and just before matches were postponed due to the Coronavirus pandemic.
